Wine of the Week

BY BRENDA MAITLAND

Wine regions along New Zealand's east coast, including Hawkes Bay and Gisbourne on the North Island and Marlborough on the South Island, provided the grapes for this excellent, value-priced Sauvignon Blanc. A long, dry growing season produced well-ripened fruit with a near-perfect acid balance. Fermented in stainless steel, then blended and lightly fined, this medium-bodied wine offers aromas of grapefruit and citrus with grassy undertones. On the palate, vibrant rounded, forward fruit flavors of juicy grapefruit with hints of melon lead to a long, zesty finish. Good as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to shellfish, salads, goat cheese, asparagus and artichokes. Where to buy it: Cork & Bottle, Dorignac's, Langenstein's (Metairie location) and Acquistapace's Covington Super Market. Where to drink it: Marigny Brasserie. (Listings current at press time.)
