Benjamin Karp — a New Hampshire high school senior with close ties to New Orleans — is selling blue "Children of New Orleans" wrist bracelets to raise money to buy toys, video games and play equipment for waiting areas and patient rooms in the Tulane Hospital for Children and the Pediatric Emergency Department. Karp says he came up with the idea as a way to help New Orleans children in a post-Katrina world where many families and institutions are still recovering from the storm and rebuilding. The bracelets cost $2 each and are available for purchase at the hospital as well as in shops throughout the city. Visit www.thechildrenofneworleans.com for a list of retailers.

Dirty Coast is staging its second annual fashion show of its new T-shirt designs at 10:30 p.m. Friday, March 28, at One Eyed Jacks (615 Toulouse St.). It will be followed by music by Brian Coogan, Jason Marsalis and Rob Mazurek as well as performances by The Camel Toe Lady Steppers, Bustout Burlesque and NoLA Rising. There also will be a raffle of merchandise, artwork and services, with proceeds benefiting the Louisiana SPCA. Admission is $10.

Local glass artist Mitchell Gaudet will teach an intensive weekend class at the New Orleans Creative Glass Institute (3924 Conti St., 482-6003; www.nocgi.org) Friday-Sunday, March 28-30. Students will be introduced to all aspects of hot-glass casting, which uses heavy ladles and heavy glass, making it a particularly rewarding process for the creative and curious. The cost of this class is $350. Call NOCGI for more information or to reserve your spot.
